After losing in Detroit on Saturday, the Sixers travelled to the nation's capital for MLK Day afternoon matchup with the Wizards. Unfortunately for Philly, it wasn't much of a contest as Washington pulled away early and would never be able to cut back the deficit. The Sixers stand at 8-33 halfway through the season. Nice job, Hinkie.
The game was competitive for all of 6 minutes. Noel put the Sixers up 8-7 with an inside shot just over 5 minutes into the matinee. After a Washington timeout, the Wizards would run away with the lead as part of a 18-3 run. The 76ers trailed by as much as 16 in the opening quarter and would enter halftime down 55-32. Washington would outscore Philly in each quarter of play. Final score: 111-76.
Philadelphia struggled to score and only shot 33% from the floor and 61% from the free throw line. The 76ers were also outrebounded 53-30 and out-scored 54-32 in the paint. Washington shot 56% from the field and hit 7 of their 14 attempts from deep.
Henry Sims led the Sixers with 13 points but only grabbed 3 rebounds. Noel added 11 points, 7 boards, 4 steals, and 1 block. Covington scored 10 points and rookie Jerami Grant added 12 points off the bench. Carter-Williams finished with 7 points (2-13 FG) and 5 assists.
The Wizards were led by 20 points, 8 rebounds and 2 rejections from Marcin Gortat. John Wall recorded 10 assists with 11 points. Kevin Seraphin scored 14 points and secured 9 rebounds in reserve.
The 76ers host the NBA-worst Knicks on Wednesday.
