Carter-Williams looked dominant as both he and Nerlens Noel led the 76ers to their 10th win of the season. MCW impressively recorded his 5th triple-double in less than 2 full seasons played. Philadelphia's offense looked controlled and fluid, finally able to break the 100 point mark after 24 games, winning 103-94.
The Timberwolves arrived at the Wells Fargo Center for a battle between two teams vying for the 1st overall pick in next years draft. Friday's matchup marked the second meeting of these team, as the Sixers overcame Wolves in Minnesota for their first win of the season in December.

The wait is over. Almost.
Friday night the Sixers Twitter account (which is one of the best accounts in the game in case you aren’t already following) teased a new mascot for the franchise (see below). The mascot is set to debut on February 10 at the Franklin Institute. The 76ers snapped their 6 game losing skid with a decisive victory over the Pistons on Wednesday. A combination of good defense from Brett Brown's squad and frigid shooting from Detroit helped put the Sixers maintain their lead after a great first quarter.
Michael Carter-Williams led the way after missing the last game against New Orleans as the Sixers won 89-69. It marked the 4th home win for Philly this season. The last game the Sixers won was earlier this month: January 19th in the Wells Fargo Center against the Pelicans without an injured Anthony Davis. On Monday, the second game in the season series between Philly and New Orleans would turn out quite differently.
With Michael Carter-Williams out with an illness and Davis back in the Pelicans lineup, the 76ers (8-37) did not stand a chance in New Orleans (24-21). Final score: 99-74. The 76ers and the Raptors faced off at the Wells Fargo Center on Friday night in a matchup of division rivals. Brett Brown's team had an incredibly hot start and had many chances to pull out the upset win but they could not maintain the lead. Former Villanova Wildcat and current All-star, Kyle Lowry, led Toronto (28-15) to their 3rd win over the Sixers this season.
Philadelphia (8-35) has dropped 4 straight games and have failed to top 100 points in their last 20 games. The 76ers welcomed the NBA-worst Knicks to the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night. In a battle of the league's bottom two offenses in terms of points per game, Philly (8-34) would keep it close all game, but ultimately fall as former SJU Hawk, Langston Galloway, hit a corner three in the final minute to put the game away. Final score: 98-91.
The joke's on you New York, this only helps our draft odds and hurts yours. After losing in Detroit on Saturday, the Sixers travelled to the nation's capital for MLK Day afternoon matchup with the Wizards. Unfortunately for Philly, it wasn't much of a contest as Washington pulled away early and would never be able to cut back the deficit. The Sixers stand at 8-33 halfway through the season. Nice job, Hinkie.
The 76ers returned home on Saturday to face the Pacers for the 2nd game of the back-to-back after their last second victory over the Nets. In what turned out to be another tightly played contest, the Sixers would rely on a Michael Carter-Williams layup in the closing seconds to capture their 2nd win in a row. This marked their second win in front of their home fans. Brett Brown's team seems to be turning it around, winning 3 of their last 4 and since starting the season 0-17, the Sixers have are 7-12.
From a fan perspective it's awesome to see these players enjoying themselves on the court and watching Noel and MCW dancing to "Here Come the Sixers/1-2-3-4-5 Sixers" after the win. But I can't help and imagine Hinkie scheming alone in his office with the lights dimmed, plotting his next move to secure more 2nd rounders and ensure a higher draft pick. The Sixers added their 5th win on the road on Friday with a last second victory against the Nets. They trailed by as much as 13 in the second half but another solid 4th quarter performance snapped their losing streak at 4 straight against Brooklyn.
A dominant dunk from Nerlens Noel off a beautiful drive and assist from Carter-Williams with only 3.2 seconds remaining put the Sixers up for good, 90-88. The 76ers returned home to the Wells Fargo Center on Monday after a tough west coast swing. Still winless in Philadelphia, the Sixers were handed a golden opportunity to finally pick up a win as a short-handed Cavaliers team came to town.
Without LeBron James and Kyrie Irving due to injuries and Dion Waiters because a pending trade, the Cavaliers would be rely on Kevin Love. While down big in the 2nd half, Michael Carter-Williams and Tony Wroten would lead the Sixers back into it as a Wroten layup in the final seconds would seal the 95-92 victory. |
