The Sixers faced off against the Milwaukee Bucks Friday night, hoping to end their four game losing streak. If there was any game to end it, it was this one. The struggling, injury plagued Bucks came into the game 2-8, without Brandon Knight and Larry Sanders and the Sixers were able to take advantage. It took a period of overtime to get the win, but the Sixers came out victorious at home, 115-107.
Thad Young missed his second straight game for personal reasons and Daniel Orton got the start at center after a solid game against Toronto. The Sixers were hot for the floor the whole game, shooting 60% at half time and 57% for the entire game. With that kind of shooting percentage you would assume an easy victory, but the Sixers 26 turnovers made it closer than it should have been. The Sixers led by 8 after the first quarter and at one point in the second led by 15 points but sloppy play and a Milwaukee run cut the Sixers lead to 2 at halftime.
The Sixers held on to a slim lead through the 3rd but Caron Butler and the Bucks took the lead and padded it in the 4th quarter. The Sixers and Hawes put together a 9-0 run in the closing minutes of the 4th to cut the deficit to only 1 with :30 remaining. On the next possession, the Bucks moved the ball well and found Butler wide open for an open corner three that looked as if it sealed the game. But that wasn't so. Turner made a quick two and Philly was forced to foul. Ridnour missed one of two foul shots to give the Sixers some hope. With :8 seconds left, Turner inbounded the ball to Spencer Hawes who made a miraculous, turn-around, contested, one-footer three to force OT.
Evan Turner started the overtime period with 2 unanswered baskets as the Sixers took firm control of OT and would not let go. Hollis Thompson hit a 3 to put the nail in the Bucks coffin as the Sixers broke their losing streak.
Spencer Hawes scored 25 points, off 3 threes, and grabbed 12 rebounds for Philadelphia. Evan Turner found his scoring again as he led the team his 27 and added 6 boards. MCW fouled out in the 4th but almost had a triple-double in his second game back, with 12 points, 11 assists, and 8 rebounds, not to mention his 5 steals. Hollis Thompson added 16 off the bench.
Caron Butler had a game-high 38 points. OJ Mayo had a bad shooting night and finished with only 9 points but contributed 8 assists. Ersan Ilyasova had a great all-around game with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and had a good game defensively with 3 steals.
The Sixers look to win back-to-back games as they play the tough Pacers tomorrow night in Indiana.
