For their final game of the 2013-2014 season, the 76ers visited the Miami Heat. With both Bosh and LeBron sitting, the Sixers held the lead from the end of the first quarter until the final buzzer, winning 100-87. Philadelphia ended the season the way they started it, with a win over the Heat (which sounds nice if you ignore the 63 losses in between).
Thad Young and the Sixers started the contest well and held the lead until a 17-5 run by Heat towards the end of the opening quarter put Miami ahead. However, the Sixers would score 10 unanswered points, capped by a three from Casper Ware to take a 29-27 lead into the second quarter. Young led the way with 10 first quarter points. Philadelphia's efficient offensive play in the 2nd expanded their hold on the game and pushed their FG percentage to 57% at the half. Sparked by 14 first half points from D Wade, the Heat stayed in the game. Philly went into halftime with a 55-51 lead, as both Young and James Anderson had 10 points.
The 76ers pushed their lead to double-digits midway through the 3rd quarter as Miami became sloppy with the ball. A 22-6 run orchestrated by Thad Young and Philly's reserves created an 18 point hold that they took into the 4th. Norris Cole and Ray Allen helped Miami start the final quarter on a 16-2 run as the Sixers took ill-advised shots and turned the ball over. A put-back dunk by Henry Sims put a stop to the run and quieted the crowd. The 76ers extended their lead back to double digits and would win 100-87 to finish their season.
The Sixers sole veteran, Thad Young, scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Carter-Williams ended his rookie campaign with 12 points (3-10 FG), 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Anderson, Sims, and Ware each tacked on 10 points each. The Sixers shot 51% from the floor and outscored the Heat 52-28 in the paint.
Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 16 points and 4 assists. Toney Douglas added 13 points while Ray Allen scored 11 off the bench in the loss. Miami committed 22 turnovers and allowed 37 points off turnovers.
The 76ers will now enter an offseason with a lot of questions to be answered. Who will they select with their cache of picks? Who other than MCW and Young, will actually be on the roster next year? Its time for Hinkie to work his magic again.
