The 76ers continued their 3 game western road-trip with a stop in Oakland on Monday night. Only one day after being embarrassed and blown out by 45 by the Clippers, the Sixers would again get whooped; this time by the Warriors. Philly(15-38) trailed from start to finish and would lose 123-80. At least fans can tell that this tanking thing is working.
After a terrible loss in LA, you would hope that the Sixers would get pumped and look to redeem themselves against the Warriors, but obviously that did not happen. It's one thing to commit rebuilding and expect to lose more games than you'll win. Its another thing to be the laughing stock of the league.
The Sixers are the only franchise to lose 2 straight games by at least 40 points. And they've done it twice (1994 & 2014).
After trailing by only 8 points after the first quarter, the Sixers offense would go cold and put up only 12 2nd quarter points. The Warriors, led by former Sixer Marreese Speights, run away with the lead and went into the half with a 66-33 hold on the game. That's right, the Sixers let their opponent go into the break with double their score. Speights had a career high 32 points to go with 8 boards and 3 blocks against his former team.
The Sixers only fell further behind in the 3rd and found themselves in a 46 point hole going into the final period. The Warriors did their damage in transition, outscoring the 76ers 23-11 in fast break points, but also controlled the paint despite missing starting center Andrew Bogut. Carter-Williams and Philly won the 4th quarter against Golden State's reserves but it was far too late and nowhere near enough.
The Sixers, one of the top teams at scoring in the paint, allowed 52 points in the paint and only scored 40. Philadelphia was also outplayed and outhustled on the glass, as Golden State won the rebounding battle 60-38.
MCW led the Sixers with 24 points while both Young and Turner added 12 points and 3 steals each. Spencer Hawes and James Anderson combined for 8 points on 4-16 shooting. The 76ers shot an ugly 37% from the field.
Steph Curry scored 23 points (6-9 3PT) and passed out 8 assists for the Warriors. David Lee secured 13 rebounds and contributed 13 points.
The Sixers will play the Jazz(17-33) in Utah on Wednesday. Hopefully they will avoid another embarrassment.
