The 76ers took a short trip to challenge the Wizards for the third time this season. The 76ers were victorious when they played in DC earlier this season, but this time the Wizards would best Philadelphia, despite a great showing from Carter-Williams. The Sixers (13-28) have now dropped 4 straight.
The Wizards started a 10-2 run 7 minutes into the game to pull ahead. The Sixers trailed 29-23 after a first quarter in which John Wall scored 10 for Washington. Carter-Williams picked up his play early in the 2nd, scoring 6 straight and swiping 2 steals for the Sixers in less than a minute. However, the Wizards had an answer as Bradley Beal found his shot and expanded their lead to double-digits. The difference early in the game was free-throw shooting; the Wizards got to the line 22 times in the first half compared to only 9 by Philadelphia. The 76ers found themselves in a 10 point hole at the half, down 61-51. MCW led the team with 19 points while Hawes had 11 rebounds after 2 quarters of play.
Michael Carter-Williams continued his high-level of play in the 3rd as the rookie and Thad Young sparked a 12-2 run for the Sixers, cutting it to a 4 point game. After a timeout, the Wizards' defense would slow down Philly, and help start their own 16-5 run to end the quarter. After 3, the Wizards led 86-73. Philadelphia struggled to score to start the 4th quarter, allowing Washington to pull further away and build a 20 point lead. But the Sixers wouldn't give up. Anderson and Hawes powered the Sixers to 13 unanswered, making it a single-digit game again. But it was too little too late and the 76ers would lose in Washington, 107-99.
Carter-Williams added another impressive performance in his rookie year, scoring a game-high 31 points while recording 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Spencer Hawes cleaned the glass, securing 16 boards, but the Sixers lost the rebounding battle 53-44, for the 4th time in 4 losses. Hawes and Turner both added 11 points. Thad Young scored 18 points while Hollis Thompson contributed 13 points off the bench. The 76ers shot only 42% from the floor and ended with only 15 assists.
Brad Beal had a great all around performance for the Wizards, scoring 22 points while collecting 9 rebounds and passing out 8 assists. Marcin Gortat contributed 11 rebounds, 19 points and blocked 4 shots. The Wizards recorded 12 blocks as a team. Wall finished with 14 points and 5 assists.
The Sixers will try to avoid another loss when they play the struggling Knicks(15-26) on Wednesday in New York. New York won the first contest between the division rivals earlier this month, 102-92.
