The Sixers visited Indianapolis Saturday night looking to hand the Pacers just their second loss of the season. Despite dressing just nine players, the Sixers were a handful for the powerful Pacers. Without the teams second-leading scorer, Spencer Hawes, as well as Thad Young and Tony Wroten, the Sixers looked to be no match on paper for Indianapolis. Well, that’s why they play the games. The Sixers continued to entertain in a season with little expectations, falling in the end 106-98.
The Sixers fought hard in the first half, tying the game 11 different times. Keeping pace with the Pacers and big man Roy Hibbert, the Sixers went to the break trailing just 56-52.
The Pacers outscored the Sixers 21-14 in the third quarter to extend their lead, but the young Philadelphia squad was not ready to call it a night just yet. Opening the fourth quarter on a 17-4 run, the Sixers gained an 85-81 lead. The Pacers would regain the lead and narrowly escape with a 106-98 win, but the Sixers hand given them all they could handle.
Without Hawes, Roy Hibbert proved to be too much for the Sixers in the paint, scoring 27, grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking 6 shots.
Michael Carter-Williams led the way for the Sixers, scoring 29 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and collecting 7 steals. Evan Turner scored 21 and grabbed 11 boards in the game and Daniel Orton added a double-double as well, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The Sixers, 6-9, will next face the 4-8 Orlando Magic on Wednesday.
