The wait is over. Almost.
Friday night the Sixers Twitter account (which is one of the best accounts in the game in case you aren’t already following) teased a new mascot for the franchise (see below). The mascot is set to debut on February 10 at the Franklin Institute.

“From the start, our mantra for choosing a new mascot has been ‘For Kids, By Kids,’ and they have been integral to this entire process,” said Sixers Chief Marketing & Innovation Officer Tim McDermott in a press release. “We met with, interviewed and listened to more than 1,000 children in the greater Philadelphia region through focus groups and surveys to bring to life the mascot they wanted. We look forward to introducing the newest member of our team to the public on February 10.”
The video of the new mascot quickly eliminates quite a few options for who it could be, including Hip Hop, who tragically fell down the rabbit hole for good back in 2011. The video also rules out the former heirs apparent to the Hip Hop throne, Big Ben, B. Franklin Dogg and Phil E. Moose, all of whom were options to replace Hip Hop before the Sixers realized they all sucked.
The mascot could, however, be a revitalized version of Big Shot, who was last seen roaming Philadelphia in 1996.
Being the fine investigative journalists that we are, we attempted to rule out that the mascot was in fact Cookie Monster by sliding directly into the Sixers’ DMs.

Unfortunately, they said we have to wait just like everyone else so that they don’t reveal that we’re their best friend. So, stay tuned. A new mascot is just around the Conshohocken Curve.
