The Philadelphia Union return to the pitch tonight, as they visit the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium. The game could carry heavy playoff implications, as the Union currently sit in fourth place in a crowded top of the Eastern Conference. The Revs, who are in sixth in the conference, only trail the Union by five points in the standings.
The Union are coming off a big scoreless draw with the Red Bulls last weekend, the first point the squad has ever recorded at Red Bull Arena. The Union continue to heat up, as they have held the opposition scoreless in four of their last five matches. If the squad can manage to leave Massachusetts with three points, they will find themselves in a tie for first in the Eastern Conference, pending the results of the New York and Kansas City games.
This will be the third matchup of the season between the two squads, with each team having one win in head to head competition. The Revs hold the goal differential advantage in head to head competition by one goal, but the squads have not seen each other since April, in which time the Union have improved vastly.
The Union will look for Sebastien Le Toux to facilitate the scoring, as the French striker leads the MLS in assists with 12. Union leading scorer Jack McInerney, who at 21 is just over a year younger than me, making me feel even worse about myself, will be looked upon to lead the shooting barrage for the Union, as he also leads the team in shots by 25.
