The Union outplayed the Montreal Impact for the full 90 minutes in front of a raucous crowd at PPL Park, only to walk away with one point from their efforts. While escaping with a point against the Eastern Conference leaders is nice, failing to capitalize on opportunities cost the Union the chance to walk away from the match with three points and further solidify their playoff hopes.
The Union had opportunities early and often but just could not find the back of the net in the first half. While the Impact had some decent chances as well, the Union were controlling the tempo and had far more opportunities. A week after being dominated 5 to 1 by the Revolution, the Union looked like a completely different squad in this complete effort. The teams entered the locker room at the half tied, but it was clear the Union were in control.
The Union emerged from the half only to find more opportunities, but fail to net one. In the end, the Union tripled the Impacts attempts on goal (12 to 4) and had 4 shots on target to Montreal's 1.
The Union now sit in fourth in the Eastern Conference, three points behind Montreal, New York and Kansas City who are in a three-way tie for first. The Union will return to action September 8 against the San Jose Earthquakes.
